Το Σπίτι της Ευρώπης στη Ρόδο, και ειδικά η Επιτροπή Νέων του, στηρίζουν την δράση ευαισθητοποιήσης για την Ευρωπαϊκή Ημέρα Θαλάσσιου Περιβάλλοντος στη Ρόδο από την Blutopia που θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Κυριακή, 22 Ιουνίου 2025, στην Κάμειρο Σκάλα.

On Sunday, June 22nd 2025, Blutopia is proudly hosting a European Maritime Day, to encourage our local community and ocean enthusiasts to learn about our waters in Rhodes and do their part protecting our seas.
1. Harbour Clean at Kamiros Skala: the dive team at Blutopia will proceed early in the morning to clean up waste from inside the harbour. These items will be sorted and used in workshops throughout the day, subsequently these will be recycled appropriately. Simultaneously participants can collect waste from the shorelines around the harbour.
a. Times: Meet at Dive Centre 09:00, Dive at 10:00, Out at 11:00
b. Resources needed: Cleaning bags, bin bags to collect after, EMD bins, GoPros.
c. Location: Harbour
d. Assigned staff: Tasos, Lucy, Pierre, Alexandros
2. Plastic pollution workshops: after these items have been collected and sorted, visitors can listen to small marine biology lectures on plastic pollution and the effects on our marine environment. This will include small interactive sessions on how to recycle and cut down on plastic consumption.
a. Times: 12:30-13:00, 13:00-13:30, 14:00-14:30, 15:00-15:30.
b. Resources needed: plastic collected from dive & bottles from boat from the last few weeks, some cut up plastics to demonstrate effects of microplastics.
c. Location: Dive Centre, one wooden table outside
d. Assigned staff: Lucy and Pierre in rotation.
3. Snorkelling lessons & Taster sessions: every hour, there will be an opportunity to join one of our guides on a small snorkelling lesson, demonstration and taster session in the sheltered waters of our harbour next to the dive centre. If visitors wish, they can take a marine waste collection bag and continue the in-water clean-up if needed. This is a great opportunity for children to learn how to snorkel.

b. Resources Needed: Masks, snorkels, fins, kids masks, some bags to collect rubbish if wanted.
c. Location: Beach next to Althemenis.
d. Assigned staff: Lucy, Tasos, Pierre
4. Mini marine biology lectures – The Sea we Clean: this will include small marine biology lectures (in English/Greek/French if wanted) discussing the Mediterranean marine ecosystem. Furthermore, this will discuss the threats it currently faces, including plastic pollution.
a. Times: 12:30-13:00, 13:00-13:30, 14:00-14:30, 15:00-15:30.
b. Resources Needed: Screen, laptop, visual aids, videos, seats and table.
c. Location: Inside dive centre.
d. Assigned staff: Tasos, Lucy, Pierre.
e. Topics for presentations: Short lecture about the Mediterranean (ecosystem, wildlife, threats, future etc.), short lecture about Aquaculture.
5. Experience local dives through Virtual Reality: one of our partners will set-up a small stall with a VR headset that allows visitors to experience several local dive sites here in Rhodes through VR.
a. Times: on display throughout the whole day.
b. Resources Needed: electrical output, laptop.
c. Location: Inside dive centre.

6. Turning plastic waste into art: after the clean-ups, there will be an opportunity for people to collaborate on an artwork made entirely out of the waste we collected, which will be exhibited at the dive centre. Children will also be able to get fun marine, face paint done.
a. Times: will run throughout the day, people can add to the sculpture whenever they want.
b. Resources Needed: frame (height 1.5 m) and base for Blutopia dolphin (wood and steel), plastic bottles collected throughout the next weeks and dive, stanley knives, glue gun (brought by SVB), thin wire, wire cutters, facepaint (brought by SVB), spray paint (dark blue, light blue, white), collect waste (bottles, cans, polystyrene), tarpaulin for underneath, extension cord.
c. Location: Front outside of dive centre.
