The House of Europe in Rhodes

Τhe Club de Rhodes, the Club of Laureates European Women and the International Association for the Promotion of the Women of Europe have organized a Meeting in Rhodes titled «ΑGΟRΑ 2009» with the support of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, of the Municipality of Rhodes, the Prefecture of the Dodecanese, of the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce and of the Hotels Rodos Palace και Grande Albergo delle Rose.

At the opening session, at the Hotel Rodos Palace, the main speakers were the President and founder of the Club de Rhodes Mrs. Rodi Kratsa, Deputy and Vice-President of the European Parliament, the former President of Latvia Mrs. Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the first lady of the Republic of Georgia, founder and President of the SOCO Foundation Mrs. Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Mrs. Ursula Plassnik and the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and responsible of European Issues Mr. Yannis Valinakis.

The «ΑGΟRΑ 2009» has gathered 40 women members of the two participating organizations and dealt with the following issues:

1. Culture and European Identity

2. Communication and European Citizenship and

3. Europe in the Modern World.

Within the concept of the «ΑGΟRΑ 2009» the seat of the Club de Rhodes was inaugurated, on the historic Street of the Knights, in the Inn of Provence, granted with the courteous support of the Municipality of Rhodes.

Αmong the local N.G.Os only the House of Europe in Rhodes has supported the organization of the «ΑGΟRΑ 2009».

Τhe Administrative Board met with the delegates to the Convention at the seat of the House, in the Medieval City, discussed with them on the issues dealt with during the Convention, in a cordial ambiance and later the Administrative Board has held a luncheon buffet with Greek traditional home-made cuisine.

Τhe Convention closed with a guided tour of the participants at the Ancient Acropolis and the Medieval City of Rhodes, courteously offered by the House of Europe in Rhodes. Mrs. Marilena Sokianou, graduate of International Relations and licenced tourist guide, Secretary of the House and member of the Administrative Board of the Federation of Houses of Europe EUNET seated in Bonn, has been their guide.
