With the 3rd and last event of the Trilogy – Tribute to the Greek Cultural Heritage, aiming to enlighten some aspects of our culture, at the “Georges Carayannis” Conference Hall of the Chamber of Commerce, we organized a One Day Conference on the following issue: “The Colossus of Rhodes: Myth and Reality”.
Speakers:
- Mr. Μαnolis Stefanakis, Assistant Professor in Classical Archaeology and Numismatics, Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean and
- Mr. Spyros Syropoulos, Assιstant Professor of Ancient Greek Literature at the University of the Aegean, Department of Mediterranean Studies.
Our two speakers have spoken in turn, presenting the historical sources and the finds, especially a number of imaginative prints and designs of the Colossus of Rhodes, drawn by visitors of Rhodes since the 15th century. They have also described the method of its construction and presented all the possible places where this famous statue, considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, was situated.
