The House of Europe in Rhodes

The House of Europe in Rhodes in collaboration with the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEmed) and the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) has announced the 5th Edition of the Sea of Words Literary Competition aiming to encourage the dialogue between the peoples.

Applicants should be between 18 and 30 years of age, residents of one of the 42 countries of the Union for the Mediterranean and could write in one of its languages. The short stories should portray the different realities of the Euro-Mediterranean region from the point of view of the young people who live there. The short stories (of up to 2500 words) must be submitted to info@houseofeurope-rhodes.eu up to June 25th 2012 before midnight .

The theme was: “Youth’s Future and Dialogue between Generations”.

The House of Europe in Rhodes has received 10 participations which have been forwarded to the organizers. We are wiating for the results hoping always to see one of those participants among the winners!

The writers who participated should surrender the copyright of their short story, the IEmed and ALF reserve the right to publish and use the short stories received for their future activities, they also have to attach their personal details: names, surnames, postal address and e-mail, to the submitted short stories.

The national networks members of ALF will make a prior selection of the 5 best short stories of each country and will provide their translation into English. These short stories will be sent to the International Jury.

The writers of the 20 best short stories will be awarded with the publication of their short stories and will be invited to participate in the following activities:

1. They will be invited to the awards presentation ceremony in Barcelona on the 5th and 6th November 2012 and

2. During the days following the awards presentation they will be invited to participate in a program of cultural visits and activities in the cities of Barcelona and Gerona.

The travel, accommodation and meal costs, both in Barcelona and Gerona will be covered by the organizers.

The content of the short stories aims in the creation and/or the consolidation of dynamics aiming to reinforce volunteering activities, one of the active citizenship elements, to promote intergenerational solidarity, the evolution of values and the expression of different sensitivities and realities of young people in the region. The contest also aims in the production of short stories which will focus on issues of children, parents and grand-parents facing the future.
