Today begins the fifth edition of the International Simulation Conference Regional International Organizations (Rhodes Model Regional Co-operation – RhodesMRC 2014) with the title “Towards peace and sustainable development at regional level” as it is devoted exclusively to regional international organizations. There are large organized missions from High Schools, such as the International School of Frankfurt, the 4th Lyceum Rhodes, Kremasti High School, Middle School of Afandou and individual students from other schools of our island. Participants come and stay in Rhodes at their own expense and pay a small amount to cover their feeding.
Participants will have the opportunity to experience practical the international diplomacy and work with people with common concerns and perception of cooperation, discuss interesting topics and reach common texts. As in any corresponding simulation conference, each participant undertakes to represent a country, the role of the relevant Minister and discuss with others about a specific topic. The discussion is just as it would in a normal body, the same meeting rules, the reporting protocol etc. The ultimate goal of the process is to achieve the necessary compromise and the adoption of a text, revered by all, which will propose solutions and actions on specific issues. In particular, the simulation of the OSCE will deal with the situation in Ukraine and protection of human rights in investigations on terrorism, the BSEC will deal with maritime security and environmental sustainability in the Black Sea, the cultural cooperation and the protection of cultural Heritage in the Black Sea, and the Council of Europe will address the protection of children from sexual exploitation, abuse and pornography and ensuring freedom of the press and online security.
The meetings are held in English and are closed to the public, but all relevant material is suspended in www.rhodesmrc.org for anyone with wants to have more information about these major issues, the regulations and the various research guides.
