First presentation of the Young Mediterranean Voices program in Greece – Friday, 12/10/2018 at 19:00

The Anna Lindh Foundation Greek Network and the House of Europe in Rhodes are organizing a debate event within the framework of the Anna Lindh Foundation’s flagship program, Young Mediterranean Voices. This program aims to empower youth in the Mediterranean by training them in debating skills and developing their leadership skills so that they can participate equally in public dialogue, promote dialogue between the North and the South, as well as the common issues that concern youth on both sides of the Mediterranean.

This is the first such action by the Anna Lindh Foundation in Greece, merely a first step in the development of this program in Greece, namely the training of trainers and debaters, the creation of relevant clubs and corresponding local and national competitions, and in continued participation in regional competitions and related actions. The action takes place in the framework of the 9th International Conference on Regional Simulation of Regional Organizations – RhodesMRC 2018, as representatives from 13 schools and universities will be present in Rhodes.

The language of the debate is English. Proper participation in the process requires a very good ability to understand English verbally.

The topic of the debate will be: Cultural Heritage and Tourism Development

The question for the debate will be: Does the body believe that in less developed areas tourism and cultural tourism development should take priority over the protection of cultural heritage and cultural sensitivities?

The two groups that will be in favor and against the question are:

Group 1: Mr Anas Talalqa (Jordan) and Mrs Eirini Constantinopoulou (Greece)

Group 2: Ms. Manal Benani (Algeria) and Mr. George Verdi (Greece)

Maria-Eliza Theodorou, Attorney at Law, BoD member of the House of Europe in Rhodes is in charge of the coordination of the process and the RhodesMRC Steering Committee.

The theme was chosen as a special occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the inclusion of Rhodes Medieval City in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, under the auspices of RhodesMRC 2018.
